Class at Well Bath

Gentle Luna Flow

The softer side of Mirella's schedule

You settle onto the mat. Mirella slows the room to a pace the day rarely allows. Gentle Luna Flow is the counterpart to Mirella's Sol Power class. Slower, softer, held-shape work for the body that needs restoration rather than exertion.

The class is less about linking movement to breath through continuous flow, and more about arriving in each shape and letting it work. Mirella draws on the same lineage as Sol Power — Ashtanga-qualified, deepened through study in India — but shifts the register. The sun becomes the moon.

Suitable for people at any level, and often the right choice for a Thursday morning after a heavy week. Thursdays 9:45 to 10:45.

What people bring

Presentations commonly worked with

Gentle Luna sits at the softer end of the schedule. What people arrive with is often a body that wants to be held rather than pushed.

  • A heavy working week that has left the body braced
  • Chronic low-grade tightness that a stronger class aggravates
  • Return to yoga after illness or injury
  • First yoga class for people who have felt studios were too fast
  • Anxiety that responds better to slow shapes than to flow
  • Sleep that has been shallow and would welcome a slower morning
  • Pregnancy or post-partum recovery (with medical clearance)

This is a general yoga class, not a therapeutic session. If you are working with a specific diagnosis, mention it on arrival so Mirella can suggest adaptations. For dedicated one-to-one work, look at Yoga Therapy with Jane.

What a session is like

From arrival to the last breath in the room

The class runs sixty minutes on Thursday mornings. This is how the hour unfolds.

  1. 01

    Arrival

Front door, tea in the foyer, into the studio for nine forty-five. Take your time getting to your mat.

  2. 02

    Opening

A longer seated opening than Sol Power. A few rounds of gentle breath, an intention if that fits the day.

  3. 03

    Slow warm-up

Cat-cow, gentle joint mobility, one or two soft sun salutations to bring the body online without shocking it.

  4. 04

    Held shapes

Standing and seated postures held for several breaths each. Mirella cues alignment carefully and gives you time inside each shape.

  5. 05

    Floor sequence

Forward folds, twists, hip openers, a bridge or supported shoulder stand. Everything unhurried and softened.

  6. 06

    Long rest

A generous savasana, longer than Sol Power's. The body has been unwound rather than worked, so it takes the rest deeply.

Weighing it up

Gentle Luna versus Yin

Two of the softer classes on the schedule. This is what changes between them.

Gentle Luna Flow Yin (Joe or Lauren)
Position Standing and seated shapes. Almost entirely floor-based.
Hold length Several breaths per shape. Three to five minutes per shape.
Movement Some flow, some rest. Almost no flow. Long stillness.
Register Restorative — softened active movement. Contemplative — deep held stillness.
Best if you Want to move but softly. Want to stop moving and be still.

Both belong in a well-rounded week if you have room for them.

What the evidence says

Research and clinical literature

Slower-paced yoga has strong evidence for sleep, mood, and nervous-system regulation.

  • Slow-paced yoga practices produce measurable increases in parasympathetic activity and reductions in cortisol across controlled trials.

Frontiers in Human Neuroscience · Zaccaro et al. · 2018

  • Regular gentle yoga practice is associated with improvements in sleep quality and reductions in insomnia severity in adult populations.

Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine · Buffart et al. · 2019

  • Held-shape yoga is a safe and effective intervention for mild-to-moderate anxiety symptoms across multiple randomised studies.

Questions people ask

Before you book

Is this a beginner class? +
It welcomes beginners. Mirella teaches each shape from the beginning and offers softer versions throughout. If you have never done yoga before, this is a fine first door.
Is it too slow if I am used to Sol Power? +
It is deliberately slower — the point of the class. Many of Mirella's regulars do both across the week. The pairing works.
Can I use my class pass? +
Yes. Gentle Luna is on the standard class-pass rate.
Who is teaching if Mirella is away? +
Lauren covers on some Thursdays through the summer. The Well Bath daily update names the teacher for that day.
I have back pain. Should I come? +
Often yes. The slower pace and longer holds tend to help rather than aggravate. Mention it on arrival so Mirella can look out for you.
What do I wear? +
Warm, comfortable layers. The class does not heat the body as much as Sol Power, so bring a little more than you think you need.
Do I need a mat? +
Mats and props are provided. Bring your own if you prefer.
