Workshop at Well Bath

Be Balance Workshop

A longer form of the practice

Two hours instead of one. The room settles more completely. Postures are held longer than a standard class allows. Be Balance is Mirella's own workshop, held monthly at Well Bath. It goes deeper than a single class allows. Slower, longer, and shaped for restoration rather than exertion.

The two-hour arc gives Mirella room to weave breath, held postures and stillness together in a way the standard sixty-minute class cannot. Shapes are held longer. Props are used more. The room settles more completely. Mirella is Ashtanga-qualified and deepened her practice studying in India — the workshop is the longer form of what she brings to her weekly classes.

The workshop is suitable for people at any level. It is often chosen by people in the after of a busy stretch, or by regular students of Mirella's who want to feel her work in a longer form.

What people bring

Presentations commonly worked with

Be Balance is a container for the body that wants unwinding rather than exertion. What people arrive with is often less a specific issue and more a request for two held hours.

  • A working stretch that has left the body braced
  • Chronic tension in the shoulders, hips or lower back
  • Sleep that has become shallow or slow to arrive
  • Anxiety that responds to slow shapes rather than to flow
  • Return from illness or injury when a full flow class is still too much
  • Regular Mirella students wanting to feel her work in a longer form
  • First-time yoga workshop for people who found single classes went too fast

This is a general yoga workshop, not a therapeutic session. If you are working with a specific diagnosis or an acute injury, mention it in advance so Mirella can adapt the propping.

What a session is like

From arrival to the last breath in the room

The workshop runs two hours. This is how Mirella structures the arc.

  1. 01

    Arrival and settling

Front door, tea from the Welsh dresser, into the studio. Props laid out — bolsters, blocks, blankets, straps. Take whatever combination lets you settle.

  2. 02

    Opening

A long seated opening. Mirella introduces the arc of the workshop and gives the room time to arrive properly, which the standard class does not allow.

  3. 03

    Breath and slow warm-up

A few rounds of gentle breath practice, then small mobility work. Nothing rushed. The body is being brought online rather than shocked into it.

  4. 04

    First held sequence

Standing and seated shapes held for longer than in a class. Mirella cues alignment and then holds the silence while the shape does its work.

  5. 05

    Deep restorative work

The middle of the workshop moves into fully supported postures — legs up the wall, supported forward folds, supported bridge. The body is given permission to stop trying.

  6. 06

    Long rest

A generous propped savasana longer than any class allows. Some people fall asleep. Mirella brings you back gently. Tea in the foyer afterwards for anyone who wants to stay.

Weighing it up

Be Balance versus Gentle Luna Flow

Both are Mirella at her softer register. The workshop is the longer form of the class.

Be Balance (workshop) Gentle Luna Flow (class)
Length Two hours. Sixty minutes.
Cadence Monthly. Every Thursday morning.
Register Deeply restorative — most of the workshop is held. Softer flow — some movement, some held work.
Depth of rest A longer, propped rest that most classes cannot fit in. A generous savasana at the end.
Best if you Want a proper stretch of undoing. Want a regular, sustainable weekly practice.

The workshop is often the deeper reset that Mirella's regulars build up to across a term of weekly classes.

What the evidence says

Research and clinical literature

Extended slow-paced yoga practices have a substantial evidence base for sleep, mood, and nervous-system regulation.

  • Slow yoga practices produce measurable increases in parasympathetic activity and reductions in cortisol across controlled trials.

Frontiers in Human Neuroscience · Zaccaro et al. · 2018

  • Restorative and gentle yoga programmes are associated with clinically meaningful improvements in sleep quality across adult populations.

Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine · Buffart et al. · 2019

  • Longer-form yoga workshops show larger short-term reductions in perceived stress than equivalent-content single classes in observational studies.

Questions people ask

Before you book

How often is Be Balance held? +
Periodically — usually a handful of times a year. Booking through the site names the next date. If it is not on the schedule this month, sign up for the letters and you will hear when the next one is.
Is this a beginner workshop? +
It welcomes beginners. Mirella teaches each shape from the beginning and offers softer versions throughout. If you have never done yoga before, this is a fine first door.
Can I come if I am pregnant? +
Second and third trimester often fine with adjustments. First trimester is a case-by-case conversation. Message Mirella before booking.
How does this compare to Gentle Luna Flow? +
Same soft register, longer form. Be Balance goes deeper into the restorative work than the sixty-minute class allows.
What do I bring? +
Warm, comfortable layers — the body cools when it stops moving. A blanket if you have a favourite one. Mats and props are provided.
Can I use a class pass? +
No — this is a workshop rather than a class, and priced accordingly.
I will be tired afterwards. Should I book anything else that day? +
Most people leave in a slower register than they arrived. Keep the afternoon soft if you can.
