Personal Training with Dan in Bath
Go from wherever you are to the next place
Dan watches how you move before you lift anything. The programme that follows is built around the body he sees, not a template. Personal Training with Dan is one-to-one work with a coach carrying twenty years of experience across elite sport, strength and conditioning, and holistic movement. Sessions are tailored to the person in the room, shaped fresh for the body in front of him. Strength, breathwork, movement and psychological work are woven together with a specificity most gym floors do not reach.
Sessions are held at Well Bath in the gym at the back, or outdoors when weather allows. All new one-to-one clients begin with a full lifestyle and physical assessment (£115) before regular sessions begin — this is where the work is shaped to your body and your goals.
Dan personally holds a limited number of one-to-one clients so he can stay deep with each; his wider team at White Line Coaching hold the rest. If you specifically want to work with Dan, say so on the enquiry and he will let you know honestly what is available.

What people bring
Presentations commonly worked with
Personal Training with Dan works for a wide range of arrivals. What tends to bring people to Dan's gym for the first time.
- Wanting to feel stronger in a body that has felt weak or unsure
- Returning to exercise after a long gap or an injury
- Low confidence in a normal gym environment
- Specific rehabilitation needs — post-op recovery, chronic pain patterns
- Elite performance goals — sport-specific conditioning and strength
- Weight loss with a real coach rather than a template
- Wanting movement work that also addresses the mental side
- Preparing for something specific — a mountain, a race, a season
Personal Training is not a medical treatment. If you have a diagnosed condition, are post-surgery, or are pregnant, please have a conversation with your GP or specialist first. Dan will read that context into the programme.
What a session is like
From arrival to the last breath in the room
The first six sessions with Dan typically follow this arc. The assessment sits before session one; then the work opens.
- 01
The lifestyle and physical assessment
Ninety minutes with Dan. Your history, injuries, goals, everyday rhythm, sleep, food and stress patterns. Then a physical assessment: mobility, posture, movement patterns, strength baselines. This is where the programme gets designed. Cost £115.
- 02
Session one — meeting the body
First session on the gym floor. Gentle enough to learn the shape of the work; specific enough that you leave knowing you have started. Dan reads how you move.
- 03
Session two — building the base
Foundational strength and mobility patterns. Dan cues small internal adjustments that make big differences. The programme starts taking a shape unique to your body.
- 04
Sessions three to five — real work
The programme is now running. Real strength gains show up. Breath and movement work are integrated into the session, not bolted on. Between sessions you have simple homework — daily habits that compound.
- 05
Review session
After the first block, Dan reviews progress against the initial assessment. What has shifted, what has not, what changes for the next block.
- 06
Ongoing rhythm
Most clients settle into weekly or twice-weekly sessions. Programme adjusts every four to six weeks so nothing plateaus. Dan is available between sessions for questions or check-ins.
Weighing it up
Personal Training with Dan versus a standard gym personal trainer
Personal training is a wide term. What Dan does at Well Bath has its own shape, and it helps to see where the difference sits.
| Personal Training with Dan | Standard gym PT | |
|---|---|---|
| Coach background | Twenty years including elite sport (international-level sprinter, elite coach). Personal recovery from a 2016 breakdown adds a psychological literacy the industry rarely has. | Varies widely — often qualified but early-career, session shape follows a house template. |
| First step | Ninety-minute lifestyle and physical assessment before session one. Everything downstream is designed from it. | Usually a fifteen-minute intake or nothing at all. |
| Register | Integrated — strength, breath, mind, sport-specific work. | Typically strength and conditioning only. |
| Location | Well Bath in Charlcombe — countryside, quiet, purpose-built. | Chain gym floor, often busy. |
| Continuity | Long-standing coach with an intentionally limited client list. | Trainers rotate, sessions can feel transactional. |
| Best if you | Want a coach who reads you as a whole person and shapes the work around you. | Want a straightforward strength coach at the standard price. |
Not a comment on any specific gym or trainer. Simply an honest read of where the differences sit.
