Robby
Fire keeper, Men's Fire Circle
The fire keeps its own kind of watch
Robby is the fire keeper for the Men's Fire Circle at Well Bath. Fire keeping is a specific role in a circle tradition. The keeper builds and tends the fire through the session, and the fire holds a kind of watch that the men in the circle can lean into.
Robby and Joe co-hold the Men's Fire Circle each month. Robby carries the fire and the outer container; Joe holds the inner container of the circle itself. Together they run one of the most consistent monthly evenings at Well Bath.
The Men's Fire Circle is for men who want a space to speak or to sit in silence, both accepted. It is a peer container held around a fire, held on its own terms.
Regulars say Robby's role is what makes the container work. The fire is a third presence in the circle. He tends it carefully through the evening and the men in the ring can feel the difference. Many describe walking away with something they cannot quite name but that shows up in the week that follows.
